Welcome

Welcome to the Fergus Falls Community Arena Project Web Site. This site was primarily designed as a spot for potential donors to get project informaton prior to making a financial commitment to the project. This is a City project and their staff will manage the financing, bidding, construction and operation of the arena. Link to the City of Fergus Falls web site at the bottom of this page.

As of summer 2010 the $3 million fundraising goal was met. Members of the fundraising committe continue to get donations as a way to pay for project enhancements not included in the City's plan (such as flooring for non-ice related events, batting cages, etc.)

The design and construction of the arena is a City of Fergus Falls project. In August 2010 the initial bids for the arena project came in at $9 million - well over the approved project maximum. The project engineers and City staff developed a new design which was bid in November 2010. Subsequent bid packages were within budget and awarded near the end of 2010. Many of the bids went to local contractors.

Tentatively, the main arena should be ready for the 2011 ice season with the second arena being completed in 2012.

As of June 3, 2011: Interior demolition/construction work in existing building (Unit B) continues. Excavation work for the main arena site is underway and foundation work continues for main arena site. The concrete block wall work adjoining the south side of existing building (Unit B) is complete. Foundation work for the practice arena is also completed. Steel structure work continues on the practice rink. Installation of rink refrigeration equipment/piping onsite will resume when site is ready. ISD 544 was awarded an Otto Bremer foundation Grant for the Community Arena Project ($189,000 with equal match required). The fundraising group committed to raising the equal match required. Grant funds will be reimbursed to the City after the project is completed. The additional funds allow for some finishings and alterations that were previously cut-out due to the high bids last summer.
